Sleep Coach

What is a Sleep Coach?

SPECIALIST SUPPORT

Sleep coaches work with parents and carers across a number of common sleep issues including difficulties at bedtime, frequent night waking, early-rising, short or challenging naps, moving on from co-sleeping and sleep-related anxiety issues. Our sleep coaches work with both typically developing children as well as children with additional needs up to the age of 16.

Sleep issues don’t just affect babies and toddlers, they can affect older children and teenagers too. It’s never too late to get support - we all know how precious good sleep is.

HOW CAN THEY HELP?

SLEEP SUCCESS

Of course the ultimate goal is to achieve the best night’s sleep that is realistic for your child’s age and developmental stage.

Often parents or carers will seek the support of a sleep coach when they are exhausted, frustrated and their child is sleep deprived. Some new parents may look for support to set themselves up for success and establish the foundations for good sleep. Whatever your situation, our experts are here to help.

WHAT’s INVOLVED?

FLEXIBLE & PRACTICAL

A sleep coach will support and empower you to work through your child’s sleep challenges, using practical, evidence-based strategies and techniques, tailored to your specific needs. A one size fits all policy doesn’t work with sleep.

Our sleep coaches will design a plan for you and your child and guide you through the implementation, offering remote support and/or home visits. Overnight support is available with some coaches.

WhAT TO LOOK FOR

QUALIFIED & VERIFIED

No formal training is required in the UK to be a sleep coach so in theory anyone can claim to be an “expert”. All Koala & Joe sleep coaches have been trained by the Holistic Sleep Coaching Programme or EDS Training; training programmes approved by the Maternity Nurse Association for being of the highest possible standard.

When it comes to sleep, it is important to find a coach whose style matches your own. For example, some parents & carers prefer a more structured approach whereas others prefer to be more responsive. Finding the right match for you is important.

Some questions you might consider when choosing a sleep coach include:

  • do you promote a structured feeding routine for babies or a more responsive approach?
  • can you provide information and support on safer bed sharing for babies?
  • can you tell me about your sleep philosophy?
  • are you trained to work with adolescents?
  • are you trained to work with children with additional needs?
